Juno Reactor at Prince of Wales
Daniel, Shari and I went and saw Juno Reactor at Prince of Wales in St. Kilda last night. The evening started at 10pm with an ambient DJ called OTT, definitely worth following up. He played some very engaging music, with reggae influences, and had a fantastic groove, which was the perfect beginning to the night. Plus, his Felix the cat T-shirt was cool.
OTT (or Felix, as we’ve been referring to him) was followed by a progressive house DJ called Sgt. Dan. I have to say, I found his style (or sub-genre) too simplistic, with just a simple fast beat with little progression to maintain interest and reward the listeners. It jumped straight into the high tempo, high energy stuff with no buildup, and held it there, which gave no reference point for dancing to it (it missed the foreplay!)
Tsuyoshi Suzuki followed, with his exciting style of goa/psy trance: huge complex buildups, a lull, followed by high-tempo, remove-all-the-stops pure energy. Awe-inspiring stuff, and he played the crowd like an instrument.
Juno Reactor took the reigns at 3am, and blew us all away with their great blend of organic Goa trance. Their performances were enchanting and charismatic, with the same energy and enthusiasm we saw in them at Earthcore.
Speaking of which, everyone we ran into was an ex-Earthcoree, like us!
I could see Juno better this time, and their performance was an interesting mix of live music (bongoes, congoes, maracas, a drum kit, electric guitar and some amazing vocals), and playing stuff from iTunes (or whatever software he was using), on an Apple Powerbook sitting on the stage.
The night ended around 5, 5:30am, and we staggered out. Okay, I staggered; Daniel, who by this point was wearing Shari’s fetching navel-exposing top, with pigtails, skipped out the door, followed by Shari.
Good fun!

It’s been a busy past few weeks and haven’t had much time to think about blogging. Here’s a short summary. We all went to Earthcore 25-27th of November. It was a really good weekend; fantastic music and a great retreat from city life. The standout music a
